TAS legislation

The Work Health and Safety Act 2012 and Work Health and Safety Regulations 2012 both commenced in Tasmania Parliament on 1 January 2013. The Act mirrors the provisions of the national model WHS Act and replaces the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995. Tasmania delayed the commencement of its harmonised legislation for a year — the harmonised laws originally were set to commence on 1 January 2012 nationwide — but Tasmania sought flexibility with the commencement date due in part to the fact that the model WHS Regulations and Codes of Practice are still being finalised. A number of transitional arrangements are in place.
