Paid parental leave and low income workers

On international Women’s Day (8 March), the Federal Government released a statement that women on low incomes will have greater financial security when planning to have a baby under a paid parental leave scheme. Meanwhile, Opposition leader, Tony Abbott, has generated a storm of opposition over his proposal to extend paid parental leave to six months — funded by a tax on big business.
